Early signs of cancer in dogs and it's Treatment

Cancer is a disease caused by an uncontrolled division of abnormal cells in the body. According to statistics, about fifty percent of dogs develop cancer over the age of 10. There are many types of cancer in dogs but the 5 most common cancer cell types in dogs are Mast Cell Tumors, Melanoma, Lymphoma, Bone cancer and Hemangiosarcoma. In this article, I will be cracking the early signs of these cancers and treatment solutions.

 Early Signs and Treatment

Mast Cell Tumors


This cancer type is a form of skin cancer in dogs. First of all, what are mast cells? Mast cells are cell that reside in the connective tissues which is close to the skin, lungs, mouth and nose of your dog.
Symptoms:

  • Hair loss
  • Redness on skin
  • Bruising
  • Fluid buildup
  • Tumors

If your dog is diagnosed with this type of cancer, you can choose from various treatments such as surgery, Chemotherapy and Radiation Therapy.

Melanoma


This cancer is the most common among dogs and can be found in a dog's mouth. Early signs of this cancer are lumps that start to form in your pooch's mouth.
Symptoms:

  • Unable to eat

Lymphoma

The most suitable type of treatment is the chemotherapy drugs that are Carboplatin and Doxorubicin. Once a dog is diagnosed with bone cancer, his survival time is only six months.

Hemangiosarcoma


Unlike the other cancer types, Hemangiosarcoma can spread to distances in the body rapidly which means the need for treatment will become more desperate as tumors can be formed almost anywhere. This cancer cell is mostly found in the dog's heart and spleen. Symptoms of this cancer is often time rather blur.
Symptoms:

  • Lumps
  • Black or red mass in the skin
  • Weakness
  • Weight loss
  • Loss of movement
  • Seizures
  • Lameness

The standard treatment for this cancer type is surgery combined with Chemotherapy. The Chemotherapy usually used is a single-agent which is Doxorubicin, injected every 3 weeks into the body of a patient.
